What is it with all of the rude people in the world today? As an only child, I never really had to experience living with other people until I moved off to college. Now I have 3 other roommates in a room smaller than a prison cell and it's absolutely driving me nuts. Their actions have caused me to start scrutinizing every little impolite thing other people do. Here goes.
When I open the door for you, is it so much to ask that you take a half-second out of your day to say, "Thank you."?? I imagine it'd take even less time to say "thank you" than it would have for you to open the door yourself, so why not? It's just the polite thing to do. On that note, when I (or anyone) say "hello" to you in passing, no matter how socially awkward you are, it isn't difficult to mumble a "hello" in response. It's just the polite thing to do. On the topic of socially awkwardness, why is it so difficult to make just a minimal amount of eye contact when talking to someone? I understand that in some cultures it's impolite to stare at people, but you and I were both born and raised this side of the Pacific. I don't even need you to hold a fixed gaze into my eyes... all I ask is that once in a while you look at me when you're talking to me instead of the fascinating ceiling tiles. It's just the polite thing to do.
Now we'll discuss the roommates. I understand that living together in packed spaces is difficult, but there are little things you can do to make life a bit easier. When someone is working, shut the fuck up. That applies to your music as well. I hate your music. Turn it off or put on some fucking headphones. I do the same and so should you. When you ask me for something, try starting your sentence with "Can I have" instead of "Give me." Fuck, I might even settle for just saying SOMETHING to me instead of you just taking the item in question. Asshole. Further more, keep your dirty looks to yourself. I don't give a shit if you're in a pissy mood. Get over yourself. You're not the center of the universe and the whole world isn't going to get moody and depressed with you. And if you slam that door again, I will kick you in the nuts.
It's just the fucking polite thing to do.
